Volunteer

Research proves that caring volunteers working with students of all ages, have the power to help kids boost academic achievement and put young people on track for a bright future.  That’s why the Afterschool Academy launched this historic new effort to recruit new volunteer readers, tutors and mentors.  Learn more about volunteer opportunities and find out how you can get involved by helping kids read, tutoring students, or mentoring.

After School Volunteers help out twice a week in a dynamic Creative Action After School class exploring various learning programs through theatre, art, music, puppets and more! Volunteers provide classroom support to our counselors each week throughout the school year, making classes more engaging and enriching for our kids. Activities might include assisting with homework, participating in learning games, helping kids to improve self-confidence, encouraging students during class, and helping prepare for the next school day. With our training and ongoing support, you can build new skills and make a positive difference in the lives of children while connecting with youth, educators and counselors in a creative, joyful environment!

The hours are generally 2:30pm-7:00pm. We currently have programming throughout a variety of schools in Harris County.
